About the artist, Jonathon Furman, in his own words.
The reason I created this image was to experiment with a less structured design process that incorporates my photography and design sensibility. My experience as a graphic designer has been for commercial purposes, yet I have always yearned to do more of my own work for "art's sake".
To me it's more of an art design made up of photographs that were put together like a puzzle rather than having one particular statement or meaning. Of course the viewer has to make up their mind as to what it means to them.
Generally, much of my inspiration comes from three sources; music, nature and other artists. When I feel like I'm stuck in a rut, I search out some new music, take a walk or talk to another artist about an idea and see where it leads. I also find it inspiring to visit a museum, even one I've been to before, and look at some of my favorite classic pieces and realize that the artists that created these were real people like you and I. It's a process to come to that realization, I think.
I feel that art is the way I express my own perspective of the world. As my view of the world changes and my perspective evolves, I am driven to create new art to reflect this.
I feel very welcomed as an artist having moved to Buffalo only about nine months ago. I set up my graphic design studio and Nuthatch Design was born. Since then, my business has been growing. In that short amount of time, my wife and I have met so many delightful people with a sincerely positive outlook in Buffalo. I feel lucky and inspired that we are here to share in Buffalo's renaissance and want to get involved with organizations that will make that progress happen.
Andy Warhol, Marcel Duchamp for The Large Glass, and Paul Rand, a brilliant graphic designer. I respect and admire these artists because all three were innovative, progressive, and ahead of their time. They didn't limit their work to a traditional concept of art.
I'd like to thank Keri for the opportunity to share my work and perspective here on BuffaloMe. Please visit my BuffaloMe profile and albums to learn more about me or visit my website at www.nuthatchdesign.com
