I bet you didn't know that I am....: dedicating our 200th home in August!

About Me:: Thank you for your interest in Habitat for Humanity/Buffalo, Inc. We offer four different areas in which you can volunteer.

1. Construction Sites: No skills are required, just a desire to work and learn. You are welcome to join the construction sites Tuesday thru Thursday 9 to 3pm and Saturday 9 to 3pm.

You must be 16 or older. Please wear closed-toed shoes and clothes that you would not mind ruining. You may wish to bring a few basic tools: hammer, tape measure, pencil, etc. although tools are available on site. We ask that you go through an online safety course before arriving on site at http://www.hfhvolunteerinsuance.com

2. ReStore: The ReStore is a retail outlet that sells new and gently used donated goods to benefit Habitat for Humanity/Buffalo. You can help receive, price, and stock donations, assist customers on the sales floor, operate the register, do merchandising, and possibly assist with pickups. The ReStore hours are Wednesday thru Saturday 9 to 4pm and Sunday 12 to 4pm.

You must be 14 or older. Please wear closed-toe shoes and clothes you would not mind ruining.

3. Office Work: Help Habitat function by typing Thank You letters, answering phone calls, taking messages, and filing documents, as well as other secretarial duties. The main office is open Monday thru Friday 9 to 5pm.

You must be 18 or older.

4. Committees: We have committees for every aspect of Habitat for Humanity and all run on volunteer staff.

You must be 18 or older.

The Major committees are:

Family Selection – Review applications, familiarize prospective families with Habitat, interview those families who meet the application criteria, and recommend families for the home sites to the board. Usually meets the third Monday evening of the month.

Family Liaison –Oversee the family’s sweat equity participation, review move-in requirements and re-titling utilities, and continue to provide ongoing support to the families as they learn their homeowner roles. Usually meets the third Monday evening of the month.

Development – Generate capital for house construction or rehabilitation by seeking donations from individuals, churches, businesses, and foundations, and manage all other fund raising endeavors as may be appropriate; work with partnership churches and help identify ways they can support the housing ministry of Habitat. Usually meets the second Monday evening of the month.

Promotion/ Publicity – Communicate the Habitat story to the media. Coordinate speaking engagements and update all materials for various presentations. Usually meets the second Monday evening of the month with the Development Committee.
