Buffalo = "half-abandoned city"?

In Nathan Kensinger's photo-blog about NYC -http://kensinger.blogspot.com/ - in the section about Far Rockaway, he mentions that the"eastern edge of Queens, was once a flourishing summercommunity. Today, its landscape is like the half-abandoned city of Buffalo, withvast empty lots and a large number of abandoned homes."As a soon to be ex-resident of Buffalo, I'd just like to say, as someone who has cometo love this city - its inhabitants, architecture and still thriving arts community - you…See More

Still here!

And, still, I'm here. I never would have imagined I'd be in Buffalo still, but, I'm not really complaining. I love the city and the people here. The arts community rocks! And, the architecture is stunning. I wish more were done to preserve and maintain it, not to mention more businesses nd activities to bring people downtown.See More

Profile Information

Relationship Status:
Single
I bet you didn't know that I am....
an artist, poet and photographer
About Me:
I've been in Buffalo for about 3 years, coming originally from Ohio. I really like it here! It's a great place with lots to do and see.

I'm an artist, and I dabble in a bit of everything - acrylics, pencil, ink, mixed media, photography, abstract, portrait drawing, caricature. I've been told by some local artists that I need to narrow down a style, so I've been attempting to mentally wrap my head around that while I soul search for what I feel is 'me'.
Favorite Buffalo Bars/Restaurants:
Nietszche's is cool. I've not been to many other bars. I also like Pano's. OK,so I don't get out much.
Favorite Music:
All kinds. From pop to show tunes, classical to metal. I'm just not a big fan of jazz or twangy country.
Favorite Movies:
I love Ocean's Eleven (and 12 and 13, although not as much as 11), and the Matrix series. And, oddly enough, The Hours.
Favorite TV Shows:
SNL, ER, Lost, all the short name ones. Nono, just kidding. I also like Ghost Whisperer, Medium, I DID like Moonlight but they evidently cancelled that, Reno 911, Fringe, The Daily Show

Road Less Traveled

Yes, I'm still in town! And, yesterday I went downtown to the theater district and saw a great poetry read at The Road Less Traveled. It was the first poetry reading I'd ever attended. Very cool!

I know it's been awhile

Posted on April 13, 2009 at 4:19am 0 Comments

Hey everyone. I hope you all had a nice Easter, if you celebrate it.

I know I haven't been on here in awhile, but I was having computer issues and if I went on any site other than the most basic, my computer would lock up. Yeah, it sucked!

And, yes I'm still in Buffalo! And, I was wondering if anyone knew of anyone who picked up old, NON-working electronics that would take them to be 100% recycled? I've had a couple numbers, but the people never got back to me. I just hate… Continue

Looking for a computer

Posted on January 28, 2009 at 6:07am 3 Comments

I'm in the market for a new (used) computer. My budget is only $100, which I know limits me, but, it's all I can afford at the present time. I'd like a Pentium 4, but I'd take a P3. I have a hard drive with an OS, as well as a monitor, keyboard and mouse, so, really, I just need the tower with motherboard. But, if someone has everything with a smaller hard drive, that'd be good too. I prefer at least 1 gb of RAM, but I can always get extra.

(I have looked on Ebay, Amazon and other… Continue

Denise, no problem at all - I believe right above where you view the event after you click it on - in the upper corner it should say Invite People or Invite More People - something like that then you can invite friends from in here and it also gives you the option of importing your own contacts too which is a very cool feature.

You should make an event of that seriously - the art garage sale so people know. You are much welcome. I am vehicleless right now - for a short time - I would gladly go - I adore garage sales let alone artwork - one day wish to fill my home up with personal artwork like that.

Denise,

I have not had a chance to check out your work but I will - I do apologize - not that I do not wish too - I do very much so and will - the summer here you know how it gets with events which is great so I have to take time for me to check out the things I wish to.

Denise,

Ha ha we are all the same - artists - doing 8 different things. Congrats on the Artvoice that sometimes comes few and far between, so yes be very proud of that for sure.

I paint too - started with acrylics then went to oil, huge difference, never tried watercolor though but one day wish to get into Calligraphy, Gaelic or Japanese or Chinese on rice paper or something . . . I would love to see your work. Photography is something I have always loved but was a hobby sort of thing - and the poetry? Ha ha I call that spitting like Bob Dylan - I also vent when I write -it is a release sometimes for me - I know exactly what you mean and being an artist too - I understand about copyright, I would never share your work. I adore art in all genres. Promote it too. Because I wish to keep it alive in all forms.

I am one of the hosts for the Screening Room Cafe (check out my blog for the info of this months reading) and I also host the Merriweather Library Poetry Series (currently off for the summer). There are many wonderful open mic venues in the city and it is not all about getting up to read. People tend to forget that poetry is an exchange from the reader to the listener. I would love to see you come out and just listen. What type of photos do you take? Nature, portraits?
